History: In 1943, with a few donated books and a group of interested readers, the South Charleston Public Library was established in the city’s recreation building. By 1969, after years of work by the city and civic organizations, a new building was constructed and the library moved into its current home on 4th avenue. An addition was built 10 years later, and in 2004 the building was again remodeled and expanded. The South Charleston Public Library serves more than 13,000 residents in Kanawha County.
