History: The Philippi Public Library opened in June 1966 in the new Philippi city building. However, by the late 1980s, the library had outgrown that facility and it was evident that the library needed to find a new home. In 1990 with city support, the library moved to the old Philippi post office building, and was dedicated in December 1991. The library serves nearly 9,000 residents in Philippi and Barbour County.
