History: Work began in late 1972 to establish a library in Monroe County. After 4 years of negotiations between the city, the county and the West Virginia Library Commission, the Peterstown Public Library opened its doors in January 1977. The new Instant Library was built adjacent to Peterstown Elementary and High School, and a library addition was opened 8 years later. A Family Learning Center was added in 1994. The Peterstown Public Library serves more than 6,000 residents in Monroe County.
