History: Originally served by bookmobiles, Union’s first public library was organized in 1947 by the Farm Women’s Club with support by the Monroe County Commission, the Monroe County Board of Education, and the West Virginia Library Commission. The current library facility was constructed and dedicated in 1980 and is the home of the 2018 WVLC Librarian of the Year – Paulette Kirby. The Monroe County Public Library serves over 17,000 Monroe County residents.
