History: Free library service in Romney dates back to 1935, when the city’s American Legion Auxiliary began service as a volunteer project in the courthouse basement. The library changed locations several times over the ensuing 30 years until it moved to its current location in 1967. The library now serves nearly 5,500 residents in Hampshire County.
