History: The Brooke County Public Library can trace its roots back to the late 19th century. The local Methodist Church established a library in Wellsburg in 1897, which served in several locations until a massive flood in 1936. Library service resumed three years later. Over the next three decades, the library was housed in a number of sites until moved to its present location in 1972. The Follansbee Branch opened in 1995. The system serves nearly 22,000 residents in Brooke County.
