History: In January 1976, the Jefferson County Board of Education approved the transfer of land to the town of Bolivar for a public library. After a joint effort by the adjoining towns of Bolivar and Harpers Ferry, the new Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library opened its doors in October of 1977. The library was the second public library in Jefferson County, and now serves more than 14,000 area residents.
