History: The Cabell County Library began as a small room in downtown Huntington in 1902. However, within 2 years, Andrew Carnegie donated $25,000 for a new library building, which opened its doors in 1904. The impressive structure housed the library for the next 75 years before being replaced with a new modern facility in 1980. In 1982, the library became the first public library in the state to be automated with a computerized circulation system and online catalog. The Cabell County Library has 7 branches - in Barboursville, Cox Landing, Gallaher Village, Guyandotte, Milton, Salt Rock and West Huntington. The system now serves nearly 97,000 residents.
