History: Founded in November 1946, the New Martinsville Public Library has proudly served New Martinsville and the surrounding communities for more than 80 years. The first library opened on North Street. Within three years, the library had outgrown its original home and moved to a new building donated by Columbia Southern. In 1977, the library moved to its current location on Washington Street and now serves over 8,200 residents in New Martinsville and Wetzel County. What began as a place to provide access to books and information has grown into a welcoming community resource dedicated to learning, connection, creativity, and discovery. Through partnerships with local schools, organizations, businesses, and community members, the library works to respond to the changing needs of the people it serves. The New Martinsville Public Library is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can explore new ideas, build connections, and feel at home. While our services continue to grow and evolve, our purpose remains rooted in the community we are honored to serve.
