The Great American Read is Here!

PBS has announced the 100 books to be voted on by the public as part of The Great American Read, an 8-episode PBS documentary series focused on the role of reading in American Culture. The vote will determine America's favorite book.  In May, the series revealed a list of 100 best-loved books chosen by the American public and a panel of literary and publishing professionals. The diverse list includes such books as To Kill a Mockingbird, Fifty Shades of Grey, War and Peace, and the Harry Potter series.

Over the course of the next few months, The Great American Read will encourage readers across the country to vote on the 100 books, selecting a top ten list of the most-beloved books and one book at number one.  Check at all of the details at the WV Public Broadcasting Great American Read website, as well as the national PBS website.

The West Virginia Library Commission is partnering with West Virginia Public Broadcasting to promote this exciting literary event.  Posters and bookmarks have been sent to all public libraries in the state, and the WVLC encourages libraries to take part in the program throughout the summer and fall.

In addition to selecting America's favorite book, WVLC and WVPB will also track West Virginia readers' votes and determine the Mountain State's favorite book.

Be sure to cast your vote for America's favorite book today!
